I specialise in a wide range of civil and commercial litigation. In particular, as a result of the current environment in Christchurch following the earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, I have developed a specialty in earthquake and insurance litigation.
I qualified from Canterbury University with a Law degree with Honours in 1997. Following that, I practised as a commercial litigator in London, Sydney and New Zealand in a variety of magic circle, national, mid size and boutique litigation law firms. In 2011, I became a barrister sole.
I have experience in a wide variety of cases including insurance litigation, contract and commercial disputes, property and lease disputes, Companies Act, director and shareholder disputes, insolvency matters, professional negligence, trust and estate matters, defamation, civil fraud, and relationship property litigation.
I have appeared as sole and lead counsel at all levels of New Zealand courts up to the Court of Appeal, and regularly appear in arbitrations. I have also been appointed amicus curiae by the High Court.
In 2016 I established St Asaph Chambers. Along with me in the Chambers, there are three junior barristers, Corbin Child, Noor Hamid, and Gary Davis, and our chambers manager, Charlotte Gavin. Corbin, Noor and Gary are all incredibly capable barristers and specialise in insurance and commercial litigation. They provide invaluable assistance on a variety of matters and in particular on the large number of earthquake claims I have on.
